New Living Accommodations for some of our Ugandan Team

God’s provision for Exodus continues to surprise and encourage us. Some of our workers have lived in a housing unit constructed by some former missionaries to Uganda, Dave and Janna McPhee. The McPhees raised money to purchase about 3 acres of land down the road about a hundred yards from where we later acquired the land for the Exodus Project. Dave’s vision for this parcel was to put housing units on it that would be very affordable to local Ugandans but also an improvement in quality to what many locals live in. The first building consisting of 7 rooms, concrete walls and floors, metal roofing and steel doors was completed before we even began to develop the Exodus Project site. Eventually some of our workers resided in rooms in this building, and we rented one of the rooms from Dave to use as storage for some of our tools, supplies and personal items that we eventually hoped we’d be able to use in living on the Exodus Project site. Dave and Janna eventually were led by God into a different arena of ministry and as they made plans to close up shop in Uganda, one of their objectives was to liquidate the parcels of land they had acquired there. Dave contacted us to see if we’d be interested in purchasing what they had as a bundle. While we were very interested in the housing unit and the acreage with it we weren’t yet ready to invest the amount that Dave felt he needed to get out of the several parcels he wanted to sell. Trusting that this was God’s answer for us we declined to pursue this opportunity and continued to focus on the property we already had. A few weeks later, Dave’s Canadian board of advisors for their work in Uganda informed him that, to be consistent with the Canadian government’s guidelines for property acquired and improved with donated funds, Dave should donate this particular part of the property itself or donate the proceeds from its sale to another non-profit agency doing similar kind of work in Uganda. This requirement applied specifically to the housing unit and the accompanying acreage. Dave called us back in October of last year to ask if Exodus Projects would be interested in receiving this land. We were blown away by Dave’s offer and elated that God had miraculously provided another extremely beneficial asset to the vision of Exodus. When some of our friends in the US learned about this, they sensed God’s prompting to provide the funds needed to do some much needed repairs and improvements to the property to maintain its usefulness to Exodus Projects. The way God has worked in the hearts of Dave and Janna, our US based board of advisors, and generous friends of Exodus to make this step possible have been amazing—another striking example of God’s affirmation and provision as we continue to seek the fulfillment of the vision he’s given for Exodus Project!

We've identified a 1 acre plot of land much closer to the Karuma town center for the church and therefore more accessible to the people we want to reach. Through several of our US supporting churches and individuals who have given significant gifts toward this project we've been able to make an offer to purchase the land and have already begun to accumulate materials for a pavilion for the people of Bedmot Community Bible Church to gather under. We anticipate we'll soon be able to begin construction on it. Praise God for his provision!
